"Why—what use is my soul to me? I cannot see it, nor touch it,
nor claim to know it."
How far would your soul travel
to save you from yourself?
Written by Georgie Castilla, this dark and hazy fairytale for grown-ups — loosely inspired by a short story by Oscar Wilde — unfolds as part of The Innerwild Fables.
When a humble fisherman named Echo falls in love with the beautiful son of the Sea-folk King, he casts his own Soul away in order to join his beloved at the bottom of the sea. Sent forth into a cold and merciless world, unguarded by the heart, the Soul begins a perilous journey to find its way home before it is too late.
A coming-of-middle-age fable about self-awareness and the bittersweet cost of growth, the piece features tour-de-force performances and strikingly visual storytelling, and ultimately poses a searching question: how far would your Soul travel to save you from yourself?
The Innerwild Fables is a series of dark fairytales for grown-ups by Georgie Castilla, set within a shared mythic universe that explores the inner wilderness of the Self through symbol and embodied metaphor. Each standalone play examines fractures, reckonings, and acts of self-recognition that shape who we become.
